The story behind Native Republic Sportswear

Our Story

Native Republic Sportswear was founded in Tempe, Arizona by a small group of former high school and club athletes who kept running into the same problem: training gear that either looked good and fell apart after a season, or held up but looked like it belonged in a gym locker from twenty years ago. We started Native Republic Sportswear to build a third option — performance apparel with real construction quality, cut for how people actually train, and priced so a team or an individual athlete could stock up without blinking.

The name comes from a simple idea: sport is one of the few things that genuinely brings people from every background onto the same field, court, or track. "Native Republic" is our way of pointing at that shared home turf — the idea that wherever you train, you belong there. Every piece we design starts from a training scenario first (a 6 a.m. track session, a Tuesday-night rec league game, a team travel day) rather than from a runway trend.

We spent our first year testing fabrics with local run clubs and a handful of high school teams around the Phoenix metro area before we ever opened the store. Feedback from those sessions is baked into details you can still find in our current lineup — the dropped hem on our performance tees, the zip security pocket on our joggers, the mesh vent panels on our basketball shorts. None of that came from a mood board; it came from athletes telling us what was missing from their kit bag.

Our Mission

Our mission is straightforward: make training gear that performs as hard as the people wearing it, without the markup of the big legacy sports brands. We focus on fabrics that actually manage sweat and temperature, construction that survives repeated washing and hard use, and fits that work across a range of body types — not just the standard mannequin cut.

We also believe gear should be easy to buy for a whole team, not just one athlete. That's why our size runs go from XS to 2XL across almost the entire catalog, and why our Caps & Team Gear line is built to look right whether you're outfitting a five-person training group or a full roster.

What We Make

Native Republic Sportswear designs across six core categories, each built around a specific part of an athlete's week:

  • Performance Tees — lightweight, moisture-wicking tees for daily training, sprints, and hot-weather sessions
  • Training Tops — tanks and compression base layers built for the weight room and studio classes
  • Joggers & Pants — fleece and woven joggers and track pants for warmups, travel days, and recovery
  • Athletic Shorts — training, running, and basketball shorts with built-in liners and real pockets
  • Hoodies & Sweatshirts — heavyweight fleece layers for pre- and post-workout and everyday wear
  • Caps & Team Gear — snapbacks, performance running caps, and beanies to finish the kit

What Sets Us Apart

  • Fabrics tested through real training sessions, not just lab specs
  • Consistent sizing across the catalog, from XS to 2XL
  • Direct-to-consumer pricing — no middleman markup from big-box sporting goods retailers
  • Free shipping on orders over $75 and a straightforward 30-day return window
  • Secure checkout through PayPal, with no hidden fees at any step

Our Promise to You

We stand behind everything we make. If a piece of gear doesn't hold up to normal training use, or if something doesn't fit the way you expected, our support team will make it right — whether that means a size exchange, a replacement, or a refund under our Return Policy. We would rather lose a single sale than lose your trust in the brand.

We also try to keep our line lean rather than chasing every trend. If a product doesn't earn its spot in a training bag, we don't ship it. That means fewer, better options instead of a catalog padded with filler.

Meet Our Team

Our small team in Tempe handles everything from product development to customer support, which means when you email us, you're talking to someone who actually knows the catalog — not a call center reading from a script. Many of us still train with local run clubs and rec leagues, so the gear you're wearing gets tested by the same people who designed it.

Our Fabrics

We build most of our performance line from a four-way stretch polyester-spandex blend that moves with you through a full range of motion and dries fast between sets. Our fleece pieces — the joggers, hoodies, and crewnecks — use a heavier cotton-poly blend brushed on the inside for warmth without the bulk of an old-school sweatshirt. Every fabric we use goes through a wash-and-wear test cycle before it makes it into the catalog, because a shirt that looks great on day one but pills or sags by week three isn't actually good gear.

We also pay attention to details that don't show up in a product photo: flatlock seams that won't rub raw skin on a long run, zip pockets sized to actually hold a phone, and cuffs and waistbands with enough give to survive a full training cycle of washing without going slack. These are small choices, but they're the difference between gear you reach for every week and gear that ends up at the back of a drawer.

Sizing & Fit

Across almost every category, we offer sizes from XS through 2XL, and we keep our size chart consistent from one style to the next so you don't have to re-guess your size every time you order something new. Compression tops and base layers are cut to sit close to the body by design; if you prefer more room, our standard training tops and tees run a relaxed, true-to-size fit. Joggers and shorts are cut with a tapered leg that works well over both running shoes and cleats.

Community

We regularly work with local Arizona running clubs and youth sports teams on gear feedback and, where we can, discounted team orders. If you coach or captain a team and want to talk about outfitting your roster, reach out through our Contact page — we read every message ourselves. We also try to source packaging materials that are recyclable where local programs support it, and we ship in right-sized boxes to cut down on wasted cardboard and filler.
